The Amy Williamsen Prize for Collaborative Comedia Research is awarded every three years to a major research project led by two or more AHCT members in keeping with the AHCT’s mission to promote research on Hispanic Classical Theater. The nature and format of nominations is flexible, in keeping with the inclusive and creative spirit that characterized Amy Williamsen’s scholarship, but preference will be given to larger research projects commensurate with an academic monograph, a co-edited volume of scholarship, or a major research grant. The prize, which consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program, will be presented to the winning author at the association’s annual symposium. The David Gitlitz Comedia Prize in Pedagogy and Mentorship is awarded every three years to an outstanding teacher and mentor of Hispanic classical theater. This prize, which is intended to encourage the professional development and mentorship of a new generation of comediantes, consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program. The Donald Dietz Comedia Prize for Service to AHCT is awarded every three years to an individual who has made significant contributions to the furthering of AHCT’s mission. This prize, which is intended to encourage and recognize Hispanic classical theater performance advocacy and service to the Association and consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program, will be presented to the winner at the association’s annual symposium. Collaborative research projects published or disseminated between 2023 and 2025 are eligible for this award cycle. The Franklin Smith Comedia Translation Prize is awarded to an outstanding translation into English for performance of a Golden Age play. This prize is intended to encourage the continued translation of the great corpus of comedias and other works of Hispanic classical theater for an English-speaking audience. The prize, which consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program, will be presented to the winning author at the association’s annual symposium. The Hesse Grant Award was established in honor of AHCT founder Everett Hesse to recognize outstanding scholarship by graduate students working on early modern Hispanic theater and performance studies. This award sponsors a one-year membership to the AHCT along with conference registration for the recipient to present their winning paper at the upcoming AHCT conference. As part of their annual membership, the grant winner will also receive a copy of the next issue of Comedia Performance, the journal of the association. In keeping with AHCT’s mission of mentorship and collaboration, the evaluation panel provides constructive feedback on all submissions to support students as they develop their projects for conference presentation and potential publication. The Matthew Stroud Comedia Article Prize is awarded to the outstanding scholarly article or book chapter published by a current member of the association during the current award cycle, with preference given to articles emphasizing the performance of Hispanic classical theater. The prize, which consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program, will be presented to the winning author at the association’s annual symposium every third year. The Vern Williamsen Comedia Book Prize is awarded every three years to the outstanding scholarly book published by a current member of the Association during the previous three years. Monographs, edited volumes, critical editions and anthologies related to the Comedia are eligible for the prize; monographs emphasizing the performance of Hispanic classical theater are especially encouraged. The prize, which consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program, will be presented to the winning author at the association’s annual symposium. The Walker Reid Comedia Production Prize is awarded every three years to an outstanding production of a Golden Age play in any language. This prize, which is intended to encourage live performance of the great corpus of Hispanic classical theatrical texts, consists of a certificate and recognition on the AHCT website and conference program. To enter a production into the competition, producers, directors, or companies should send a nomination letter that identifies the production, includes a link or attached copy of digital video of the production, and confirms the producer’s or director’s membership in the AHCT.
