Digital Play Texts

AHCT offers these theatrical texts free of charge to everyone interested in early modern Spanish theater. Users are granted the right to use and cite these texts for any academic and legitimate purpose. If you want to use a text to stage a theatrical production, please contact AHCT (at the link below) with the details of the performance.

These texts have been prepared by professors who are specialists in early modern Spanish theater and sometimes with students in upper division university classes. The majority of the texts are diplomatic transcriptions of early editions of the plays. These texts should not be considered critical nor definitive editions. If you find errors in the texts, please contact us at the link below to let us know.

If you would like to contribute to this database, please email an electronic text through the link below. Your name will appear as editor on the text you send. We can also send you a letter indicating your donation to the association, which is a tax-exempt, educational organization.

Finally, AHCT recognizes with gratitude the pioneering work of Professors Vern Williamsen and Matthew Stroud, who began to make these texts available online in the early days of the internet.
