AHCT Conferences and Events
The conferences organized by the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT) constitute one of the central spaces for scholarly exchange, artistic collaboration, and engagement with the rich tradition of Hispanic classical theater. These gatherings bring together an international community of scholars, educators, and theater practitioners who share a common interest in the study and performance of the comedia.
AHCT conferences are typically structured in several complementary components. Academic panels provide a forum for the presentation of current research, while roundtables and workshops encourage dialogue between scholars and practitioners. In addition, the conferences often include staged readings, performances, and discussions that highlight the living, performative dimension of early modern Spanish drama.
While a primary focus of the AHCT is the performance of the comedia, the scope of the conferences is intentionally broad. We welcome contributions on any aspect of Hispanic classical theater, including literary analysis, historical context, performance studies, translation, adaptation, and pedagogy. This inclusive approach reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the field and fosters productive exchanges across different areas of expertise.
AHCT conferences are open to both scholars and practitioners. By bringing these communities into conversation, the Association seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and theatrical production, promoting a deeper and more dynamic understanding of the comedia.
