Harrison Meadows, associate professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been elected Vice President for Conferences of the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT) in a vote open to the entire membership. His term begins in 2027 and runs through the end of 2029, and in it he will lead the organization of the Association’s annual conference. He succeeds Judith G. Caballero, who did a great job organizing our recent conferences.

Meadows holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Colorado Boulder and has taught at Tennessee since 2016, where he has directed his department’s graduate studies. His research focuses on the theater of the Spanish Golden Age and on figures of wildness in Baroque drama, the subject of his book Wild Theater (Vanderbilt University Press, 2025). With John Slater he has edited two plays by Calderón, and he also works in the digital humanities as a mentor on a project that applies machine learning to seventeenth-century Spanish printed texts.

He knows the Association well: he has presented at its conferences since 2015, received the Hesse Grant in 2016, has served on the Board since 2021, and now chairs the Hesse Grant committee.

“I will begin by thanking Judith Caballero for the tremendous work she has accomplished in the role of Vice President for Conferences for the AHCT,” says Meadows. “I feel very fortunate to take up the torch with such strong momentum from our recent meetings in Almagro, Los Angeles, El Paso, and online. I am also delighted to get the chance to work more closely with AHCT Board Officers to shape our vision for upcoming conferences, and eager to hit the ground running in collaboration with incredible colleagues like Ben Gunter as plans take shape for a meeting in Tallahassee during the next academic year.”
