The Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT) is delighted to announce that the full program for its Annual Spanish Golden Age Theater Symposium, held in collaboration with the LA Escena Festival, is now available. This year’s gathering takes place September 17–19, 2026, at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.
Over three days, the symposium brings together scholars, translators, theater practitioners, and students from across the Americas and Europe for a rich program of academic panels and roundtables on the comedia and early modern Hispanic theater. Highlights include our plenary lecture, Cutting-Edge Comedia, by Barbara Fuchs (UCLA); roundtables on adapting and translating classical works for contemporary audiences; and the presentation of the AHCT’s Founder’s Prizes and the Hesse Grant Award.
In collaboration with the LA Escena Festival, attendees will also enjoy an outstanding lineup of live performances and staged readings, including a screening of Fuenteovejuna performed by the people of Fuente Obejuna, along with productions inspired by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Calderón, and Lope de Vega.
